Carrying on the Viking link from my last post,, some of you may of watched the recent TV series on the History channel ‘The Vikings‘. If you have not I do thoroughly recommend it, but I digress. The theme music is from the solo artist ‘Karin Dreijer Andersson’ known as ‘Fever Ray‘. She has a spectacular vocal rang and her music is haunting melody, mixing modern life with historical mysticism from a time of many Gods. The song is called ‘If I had a Heart‘ and it is one of those songs that enchanted me from the first note. The lyrics so impacting they have ended up tattooed on my wrist and some more here in the piece below. I love the innocence of the lyrics used, a simple thought but compelling to the ears.
After listening to the song a thousand times (well alot and still not tired of it) combined with looking through typography work, I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted to produce and it stuck with me for days till I got a chance to sit down and begin work on it. I was aided by fonts from dafonts.com, a window photo from morgueFile and some swirly brushes from MagicalViper at deviantart.com. I wanted to play on the graffiti feel so I did a little Banksy inspired piece with another line from the song and the typical tag to acknowledge Fever Ray. Loved bringing this piece from a haunting song to solid design in my head to reality. You can enjoy the song below and if you like it, get the album, you won’t regret it.
